Flam-sognefjord- Stalheiim
Today we leave by railway from the hotel in Voss (the railway station is located opposite the hotel) to Myrdal. From Myrdal we will leave via the famous railway of Flam to sognefjord. The railway in Flam is one of the most famous attractions in Norway and is a must-see site for all tourists in Norway.
The railway is one of it's kind in the world and it descends from a height of 800 meters to a height of 2 meters above the sea over a distance of 16 kilometers. The railway travels on regular tracks and not like other railways that descend in such a steep descent like this. For the personal safety of its travelers the railway is equipped with eight separate sets of brakes.
In it's course the train passes through tunnels that twist through the mountain with a special view every time the train goes through the mountain.
In the middle of the journey the train stops to view the impressive waterfall, the Kjos that falls with great force from lake Herrinoga. With the background of the falls, you can watch the performance of short segments of the known Norwegian opera that was written because of the impressive falls.
From Flam that resides along the beach of the sognefjord, we will go for a cruise along the impressive fjord. Throughout the cruise, we'll view the stunning cliffs that pour down into the waters of the blue fjord, we'll see the houses of the Vikings that were built along the cliff. The only access to the house is through a boat. During the cruise, we'll understand the meaning of the saying that Norway is a land of waterfalls.
We'll finish the cruise in the township of godweegen. We'll continue by bus to the township of steelheim. We'll go up the ancient, twisting path (not for those with a weak heart) to the hotel that is found in the corner of the township. From the hotel, we'll view the impressive waterfall that falls from a great height into the green and flowery depth. We'll continue along the valley to view the waterfall from a different angle and make our way back to Voss.
Bergen
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and one of the most beautiful. It is the main port and was in the past the capital of Norway. Placed on half of an island in one of the fjords on the western coasts, and at the foot of 7 mountains that surround it. The beautiful scenery is reminiscent of Rio-de-janeiro, Capetown, and a little bit of our Haifa. In Bergen one can see the beautiful historical houses of the fish marketers in the Breegen quarter. They are listed in the historical sites preserved by UNESCO. The colorful fish market of the city is known throughout the entire world, as is the house of Edvard Grieg, the great Norwegian composer, who composed the musical drama Peer Gint.
Heidi fjord- the waterfall and Dam in Possly- the electrical factories in Possly-the Veeringfossen waterfalls
We'll continue to the waterfall Voringfossen that falls to a depth of 185 meters at a 90-degree angle. From this vantage point which is open and a little scary, we'll view this great waterfall that falls with a mighty tumult into a narrow crater. This is a wonderful experience that you have perhaps never seen before. We'll spend some time here and afterwards relax on the grass of the nearby Possly hotel.
We'll go out towards the water factories in the city of Possly to view the Norwegian electrical industry that is energized by flowing and streaming water that sets in motion the great turbines.
We'll return to road 7 and continue towards the fjord and the Eisford village which has 1,000 residents. This is a section that is 18 kilometers long. It twists wildly and dangerously from a height of more than 1,000 meters above sea level, to the fjord. This is truly a wonderful segment, steep and enjoyable. We'll first cross into Mabodal valley and afterwards the path continues along a slope that is 7 kilometers long that was paved during the years 1898-1920.
The Foleegnfon in Yundel glacier-an impressive look-point at Hardingen fjord
We continue along this impressive and lovely path along the Hardingen fjord to the yundel glacier. We'll view the strength of the melting ice into the streaming river, we'll pass by ferry to the other side of the Hardingen fjord and see the preserved landscapes
of the cliffs at a height of 1000 meters that fall at once into the waters of the fjord.
On a day like this, it's a must to go on the trip with a camera close at hand. It's a wonderful day for unforgettable pictures.
